What you will visit:

Seal Harbor (drive only)
Elegant Seal Harbor showcases the spectacular scenery that prompted the Rockefellers to make this their home. The serenity and picturesque beauty of Seal Harbor and the historic grand homes, make for a picture-perfect drive. Your drive meanders along Seal Harbor Beach, one of only two sand beaches on Mount Desert Island and the viewing point for the former Rockefeller boathouse.

Northeast Harbor
Famed for its protected harbor filled with exclusive yachts, this cozy village on Mount Desert Island is known for its quiet and relaxed pace and is a popular summer spot with its understated coastal ambiance, art galleries, boutiques and eateries.

What you will see along the way:
You'll meander through exclusive residential areas, populated by Victorian mansions, which were once owned by America's most prominent families and today are the summer residences of business and entertainment moguls. Pass the small church which was built by Edsel Ford so his huge summer staff could celebrate mass; it is now owned by Martha Stewart. You'll pause above Seal Harbor Beach for views of the former Rockefeller boathouse, and take in the jaw-dropping, four-mile long drive along Somes Sound, the only fjord on the east coast of North America.

Shopping:
Enjoy 20 minutes in Northeast Harbor, just enough time to browse the little shops for jewelry made with sea glass, original artwork, crafts by local artisans, and traditional souvenirs.

Special Notes:

In the latter part of the season and on Sundays, some shops in Northeast Harbor might be closed.
If time allows, you might experience a visit to the charming village of Somesville.
