What you will visit:
Lunenburg (independent exploration)
Founded in 1753, Old Town Lunenburg remains as charming as it once was. It is one of only two urban communities in North America to be designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Stroll among 18th- and 19th-century colonial buildings with brightly painted, colorful façades, admire the tall ships, fishing boats and yachts in the sunny harbor, the home port of Nova Scotia's sailing ambassador, the Bluenose II. Choose to visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, Lunenburg's historic district and the many sweet shops and nautical souvenir stores along Lunenburg's quaint streets. Your guide will orient you to the highlights so that you can enjoy a self-guided tour.
Amos Pewter Artist Studio (Optional)
Meet a local artist who will introduce you to the fine art of molding pewter. Learn all the stages of a design, from concept through wax carving to finished pewter. Tour the workshop, then watch as molten pewter is transformed into exquisite pieces of art. After learning the trick of the trade, pick up a tool and try your hand at a little wax carving yourself. Guests not wishing to participate can enjoy free time in Mahone Bay instead.
What you will see along the way:
Known as the City of Trees, lovely Halifax boasts a modern harbor and significant international port. The historic Halifax Town Clock overlooks then downtown core, and the fortress of Citadel Hill, a National Historic Site, is a star attraction. The Historic Properties on Halifax's waterfront showcase restored Victorian façade warehouses dating back to the late 1700s. Beautiful at any time of year, Halifax's surrounding scenery of windswept beaches and iconic eastern seaside vistas charm all who gaze upon her shores. From here it is an approximately 60-minute drive to Lunenburg.
Photo Opportunity:
Before arriving in Lunenburg, you'll stop at a viewpoint overlooking colorful Lunenburg Harbour for magical photographs. You'll also fill your camera with picture-postcard views of Mahone Bay.
Lunch:
Enjoy lunch on your own in Lunenburg. A host of dining options at various price points cater to the seafood lovers serving up the fresh catch of the day as well as those looking for traditional fare.
