What you will visit:

Community Baboon Sanctuary
The Community Baboon Sanctuary was established in 1985 to preserve the habitat of the endangered black howler monkey (baboon in Creole). One of the largest monkeys in the Americas, the black howler is known for its loud cry, which can be heard as far as three miles away. Tours start at a small museum and take a fascinating journey through lush rainforest trails, led by an experienced naturalist guide, to seek the majestic black howler in its natural habitat. Make an impact on the environment by planting a fruit tree that will produce food for these special creatures of the forest.

The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center
The Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center exhibits over 200 animals, representing over 45 native species. The Zoo cares for animals that were orphaned, rescued, born at the zoo, rehabilitated animals, or sent to The Belize Zoo as donations from other zoological institutions. It is a non-governmental, non-profit organization focused on wildlife conservation through wildlife rehabilitation and environmental education. A visit to the Belize Zoo is the best way to get an introduction to the native animals of Belize and to understand why it is important to protect the habitats that sustain them.
