Alaska Bear Adventure & Flight

Your excursion begins as you board your motorcoach for a short drive to the floatplane terminal. Upon arriving, you'll board an Alaska floatplane with a guaranteed window seat for your 25 minutes in the air.

You'll depart for Traitors Cove in Tongass National Forest, where upon landing you'll meet your guide/naturalist. After a short drive to the trailhead, you'll take a quarter-mile walk along a trail to a viewing platform overlooking a salmon-rich stream.

You'll spend almost an hour watching black bears fishing for and feeding on salmon heading upstream to spawn, and eagles perch in surrounding trees waiting for scraps. Although wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, keep your camera ready for a myriad of photo opportunities. (Access to this area is limited as it's controlled by the U.S. Forest Service to minimize impact on the wildlife population and to protect this fragile environment.)

Your excursion concludes with a 25-minute return flight back to the floatplane terminal, and a relaxing drive back to the pier.

Minimum age is 8. Wear comfortable hiking footwear and dress warmly. Bear sightings not guaranteed. Flash photography is not permitted at the viewing platform. Due to weight and balance limitations, as well as passenger safety and comfort, the airline has advised that guests weighing 250 lbs. or more (fully clothed) will be assessed a weight surcharge of $150. In any case where the necessity of the surcharge is verified, it will be paid directly to the tour operator just prior to the flight departure.

Carry-on bags are not allowed and there is limited secure storage at the hangar. Aircraft fly no higher than 4,000 feet. Oxygen for personal use is allowed but must be in the form of an FAA approved portable oxygen concentrator that can be secured to the user's body. Tour operates late July - mid September.

Flightseeing excursions are not refundable unless cancelled by 12:00pm on the day after embarkation.
