What You Will Visit:

Wildlife and Brown Bear Expedition
A gravel path leads to a boardwalk into the rainforest and across a muskeg to the Spasski River Valley, a prime wildlife habitat with diverse flora and fauna. Accompanied by a naturalist guide, guests walk approximately 800 yards to elevated viewing platforms. The Chichagof Islands boast a massive bear population, the highest density per square mile of any place on Earth. Brown (grizzly) bears gather in the stream to feed on the seasonal bounty or in the surrounding meadows, as their diet is 85% vegetation. There are no guarantees you will see them, as nature follows its own schedule, which makes a sighting even more exhilarating. Please wear comfortable walking (water-resistant) shoes and dress warmly.

What You See Along The Way:
The guided motorcoach ride to the Spasski River is a tour in itself, as your bus travels through the Tlingit village of Hoonah and into the interior forests and muskegs of Chichagof Island. Watch for bald eagles, woodpeckers, Sitka black-tail deer and more. Please note, while the river valley offers prime bear-viewing, sightings are not guaranteed.

Special Notes:

Minimum age is 8. Please dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour covers approximately 800 yards of walking over uneven terrain. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.

Provided: Spotting scopes at viewing platforms

Unaccompanied Minor Policy: Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
