WHAT YOU VISIT

Fortress of the Bear
Since 2007, this non-profit group has rehabilitated cubs back to health and provided them a long life full of enrichment. From the safety of the large covered viewing platform you can watch experienced naturalists share their love and knowledge of these feared, yet most revered forest creatures. The three-quarter acre habitat is located about five miles from the town center, set against the Tongass National Forest.

Fjord Cruise
At Sawmill Cove dock, you'll board a monohull boat equipped with comfortable seating for a journey through a glacier-carved fjord. While tracing the rugged coast, you'll see historic sites and clues to the important roll the region's abundant natural resources have played – and still play – in southeast Alaska's economy. At the back of the main cabin there is a restroom and snack/beverage service counter. On the upper level, there is an open-air observation deck where you can look for wildlife.

Silver Bay Homestead
Established by the McGraw family dating back generations, the private Alaskan homestead offers a look at the challenges of living in this remote part of southeast Alaska. The naturalist guide will share history of how the Tlingit survived here for thousands of years and further elaborate on the area history as you gather around a crackling fire. You will also have the chance to walk through the woods to hear about the native flora and fauna.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
This memorable adventure affords a unique, up-close experience, allowing for fantastic photo opportunities to spot bears, eagles, sea lions and more. Bring your best lenses and a camera with full battery and lots of memory space.

SNACKS/REFRESHMENTS
Enjoy spectacular views of the bay from the beach or while relaxing around the campfire with smoked salmon on crackers, s'mores and cocoa.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Scenic views abound as you travel from your ship to the Fortress of the Bear. At Sawmill Creek, you will transfer to a waiting coach to continue your exploration of the area.
