Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

The Pacific Northwest is known for its abundance of seafood and its fine wineries. This excursion combines the best of both (wine tasting participants must be 21 years of age or over).

After riding the shuttle to downtown Astoria, make your way a restaurant's private event annex and join Chef Chris Holen for a seafood demonstration and wine tasting. The annex is a new addition to the chef's multi-concept, environment rich facilities, where food is the focus. Chef Holen has appeared on numerous television shows and represented the State of Oregon at the Great American Seafood cook-off in New Orleans. Living by the "lucky to live here" mantra, he is in his 16th year in business in Astoria.

Gather around the open kitchen where the chef will filet fresh salmon and demonstrate proper cooking techniques. He will show you how to make a quick sauce to accompany the fish as well as create a side dish with non-seafood seasonal ingredients. You will taste and enjoy this delightful pairing. Sample wines designed to exemplify Oregon's best-known varietals. More than just a chef, connoisseur and wine aficionado, Chef Holen is a storyteller at heart. He will talk about his own history, what has influenced and inspired him, and how food can give you a sense of place. He will give perspective on Astoria's past and present, and what the future might hold for Astoria -- the oldest permanent American settlement West of the Rocky Mountains.

At the conclusion of your wine and seafood tasting, you are free to explore downtown Astoria on your own before returning to the ship via the shuttle at your leisure.

Special Notes:

Passengers must be at least 21 years old and have photo ID to participate in wine tasting. The menu items are sample sizes; not a full meal. Participants are provided a shuttle ticket to transfer to downtown Astoria and will make their own way to the tour venue at the appointed time. (Distance to walk is approximately 4 blocks from shuttle stop.) A map is provided.
