WHAT YOU VISIT

Mendenhall Glacier
One of the most beautiful and accessible glaciers in North America is just 12 miles from downtown Juneau but feels like a million miles away from the everyday. A half-mile wide with ice up to 1,800 feet deep, it's no surprise that Mendenhall is the most visited glacier in Alaska. Upon arrival, your guide will point out the areas of special interest so you may make the most of your visit. Explore scenic Photo Point Trail, which winds along Mendenhall Lake for an unobstructed view of the glacier's face. See first-hand how the glacier has carved out the local landscape from the many self-guided trails. Ample visiting time allows for an unhurried exploration of this glacial wonder from a variety of perspectives which might include a walk out to the base of the extraordinary Nugget Creek Falls.

Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center
The center provides fascinating information as well as excellent views of this ever-changing wonder. While there, be sure to watch a brief film about how the Mendenhall is part of the 1,500-square-mile Juneau Icefield.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
The many trails around the glacier exposes you to the special beauty of Tongass National Forest and boasts ever-changing glimpses of the glacier. Mid to late summer, wild sockeye salmon are visible in Steep Creek, which flows through the area's trail system.
