This laid-back day by the sea begins when you board your motorcoach for the stunning drive along the Catalan coast, through mountain tunnels to the charming beach town of Sitges.

This day is your own and once the motorcoach has dropped you off, you will have three luxurious hours to independently explore the town and beaches at your leisure or you can choose to participate in the optional two hour walking tour with your guide to get an introduction to this beautiful village.

The trip starts with an hour-long drive to Sitges.

Sitges, once a sleepy fishing village, is located 25 miles north of Barcelona and first became popular with tourists back in the 1960s when Barcelona's trendy set would head there for the weekend. These days it is still very popular with the younger crowd, and like Ibiza and the Costa Brava, has acquired a party image thanks to its lively nightlife.

However, by day the village oozes buckets of charm and history, and you will be free to explore it all. Lunch is at the time and place of your choosing, and for beach lovers there are plenty of opportunities to top up your tan on one of the many sandy beaches, so remember to pack your towels, swimsuits, and sunscreen.

Some of the more popular sites include the Church of St Bartholomew, which houses two Gothic burial chambers, Cau Ferrat Museum, the studio of artist and writer Santiago Rusinol, one of the leading figures of Catalan Modernism, and the Maricel Museum, which is located in an old 14th-century hospital and houses many medieval paintings and sculptures.

Sitges is also home to the Romanticism period of art and you may wish to check out the Museo Romantico; also known as 'Can Llopis', it is located in a late 18th-century house and depicts the lifestyle of an affluent Catalan family at the height of the Romantic movement. It also boasts a collection of over 400 dolls.

While browsing the charming cafes, galleries, and boutiques, look out for the many impromptu open-air market stalls that line the narrow streets, and as Sitges is home to a yearly wine festival, you may wish to sample some local wines.

After three hours, you will return to the motorcoach for the hour's drive home, once again along the coastal road, to your final destination at Barcelona pier.
