WHAT YOU VISIT

Halele'a Forest Reserve
Since 1905, Kauai's first forest reserve has been a popular hiking destination. Stretching out over 15,000 acres of public land, the four-mile trek (round trip) will be led by a knowledgeable guide. As Kauai's only dedicated hiking tour for cruise line guests, you'll be awed at your surroundings of lush vegetation such as the Australian tree fern, African tulip tree and tufted beardgrass with the Makaleha Mountains off in the distance.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
A stop at Opaeka'a Falls allows you to capture memorable photographs as it makes its 151-foot descent over basalt cliffs framed by the Makaleha Mountains. While on the trail in the reserve, you may spot a "puaiohi" or small Kauai thrush, a rare species of songbird that's endemic to the island (and if you're extremely lucky, you may find the extremely rare fabulous green sphinx moth, which has a wingspan of wingspan of four-and-a-half inches!)

SNACK
Following the hike, you'll travel to Keahua Arboretum for well-earned snacks and beverages.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
En route to the reserve, you'll stop at Waimea River, the only navigable river in the Hawaiian Islands and learn island culture.

Special Notes:

Minimum age is 8 years. Guests must be able to hiike unassisted for four miles over uneven terrain which might be slippery and muddy under wet conditions. Closed-toed shoes required and wear comfortable hiking clothes. Hiking boots are recommended on rainy and wet days.
