Designed for those who appreciate history and stunning architecture, this four-hour excursion offers a little bit of everything - a guided walking tour, free time, and plenty of photo opportunities.

Board your air-conditioned motorcoach in Livorno and travel north through the Tuscan hills to the ancient city of Lucca. A Roman colony in 180 B.C., the city's the original Roman street plan has been preserved.

When you arrive, your guide will lead you through the Piazza dell'Anfiteatro where traces of the Roman amphitheater can still be seen. As you stroll through the ancient streets, you'll see the church of San Michele in Foro, one of the city's most recognizable landmarks. Dating back to the 12th century, this stunning example of Romanesque architecture features one of the most interesting facades in Italy. Outside, its four colonnaded levels of gleaming white marble are inlaid with a menagerie of real and mythical animals. The dimly lit interior hosts a painted wooden crucifix with the Virgin Mary and St. John dating from the late 12th century and a white enameled relief of the Madonna and Child, attributed to the famous Italian sculptor Luca della Robbia.

Continuing on, to the Piazza San Martino, you'll see the Lucca Duomo. Consecrated in 1070 by Pope Alexander II, this beautiful marble cathedral features magnificent Romanesque sculptures on its façade and a much-revered crucifix and notable works of early Renaissance art inside.

Board your motorcoach and return to the ship.

Photography and video are not permitted inside the Duomo. Tour groups are not allowed inside the Duomo during mass services. Entry will be allowed on an individual basis to view the interior quietly and reverently.
