Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Imagine ascending into the wild blue yonder and flying above some of America's most spectacular wonders. From the moment you take off you'll be surrounded by pristine skies and scenery that will take your breath away so remember to bring your camera to capture every sight during your journey. And don't forget to wear warm, comfortable clothing, hats and gloves.

Your approximately 3.5-hour tour begins with a short drive from the pier to the airport. After you disembark, enjoy refreshments before stepping into your comfortable aircraft. As you gaze out the window, you'll have dazzling views of Alaska's unspoiled beauty as your pilot/guide shares his knowledge of this eye-popping landscape.

Then, feel the rush of excitement as your helicopter lifts off on a 15-minute sky-flying adventure over the Tongass National Forest. At over 16 million acres, it's renowned as the largest national forest in the United States and the greatest expanse of rainforest outside of the tropics. Designated a national park over a century ago by President Teddy Roosevelt, the forest is home to nearly 24 national monuments, preserves and wilderness areas, and the awe-inspiring Juneau Icefield.

Did you know that only about 5% of Alaska is covered in ice? Yet, you may feel differently when you look down and ponder the ice field's immense size. At 1,500 square miles, it's the fifth largest in the Western Hemisphere. But of the icefield's 19 notable glaciers, the Taku Glacier is the only one presently advancing. Measuring 4,845 feet thick with a 386-square mile area, it's the largest glacier of the Juneau Icefield.

Your helicopter will then descend to a specially built landing pad at Taku Point, which sits directly across from the glacier. In this remote setting, you'll have unparalleled opportunities for plenty of astonishing photos. When you step out onto land, you'll ooh and aah over the breathtaking views of the river, the mountains and glaciers.

Then, you'll meet your captain and transfer to your airboat for a 30-minute tour. As you skim over the glacial river water, you'll be astounded at the up-close and unforgettable look you have of the mighty Taku Glacier. Have your camera ready; the Taku River Basin is home to a large variety of wildlife such as brown bears, moose, wolves, goats, and bald eagles!

At the conclusion of this memorable journey, you'll reboard your helicopter and fly to the top of the Taku Glacier to land and step out onto this amazing mass of ice. Take photos and learn about this natural wonder before the scenic return flight to the airport, where you'll rejoin the shuttle back to your ship.
