Description

Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.

Independent travelers will thrill to the opportunity to explore the charming town of Fira at their own pace.

Transfer from Athinios to Fira has never been easier now that passengers have the option to avoid the long lines of the Fira cable car and ride in comfort to this hilltop enclave. Return to the pier is available as well, a perfect alternative for passengers with difficulty standing and walking. At a specific time, a strict minimum number of guests will board the tender ride to Athinios then meet the transportation that takes you directly to the drop-off and pickup point quite near the entrance to the pedestrian streets of Fira.

Once in Fira, you are free to enjoy its splendors at your leisure.

Perched on the edge of a dramatic cliff, Fira, the island's capital, boasts a stunning combination of Cycladic and Venetian architecture and outstanding views of the submerged volcano. The cultural and commercial center of Santorini, the island is well suited for tourists and has a number of galleries, museums and cultural attractions as well as a large shopping center and a variety of dining venues all lining the cobbled streets that ribbon their way through town. The main square of Fira is "Plateia Theotokopoulou," a colorful meeting place. From here, one can easily walk to shops, jewelry stores and tavernas.

Step inside the Prehistoric Museum and be transported back in time. The plentiful displays feature fine pottery, figurines and carvings ranging from the 25th to the 1st century B.C. Many of the items on display are artifacts recovered from the archaeological site of Akrotiri, Santorini's "Pompeii."

Delight in the locally produced works of art found in the Megaro Gyzi Cultural Center and peruse a collection of paintings and photographs of Santorini as well as authentic engravings and historical manuscripts.

When hunger strikes, stop for fresh local fare and a glass of chilled ouzo, a clear aperitif flavored with anise.

At the end of your day, you can meet the transportation and return to port. If you prefer, you can take a steep walk to the upper portion of town and meet the aerial cable car ride.
