Saxman Native Village, Dance Performance & Totem Park (Wheelchair Accessible)

You'll begin your two-and-half hour tour with a short motorcoach ride to the Saxman Native Village where you'll experience the rich living culture of southeast Alaska's Native Americans. You'll want to be sure to bring your camera, as the Village offers countless photo opportunities and you will have access to areas not available to independent guests.

Once you arrive, you'll be greeted with an elaborate tribal ceremony, the same way the Tlingits have welcomed visitors for generations. After a short video introducing you to the culture and history of Saxman, you'll enter the Beaver Clan House. Inside, you'll get to witness tribal members perform traditional songs and dances and tell tales. But watching is not all. You'll have a chance to join the fun. It will be your turn to don Tlingit regalia and experience the thrill of joining the Cape Fox Dancers for the show's finale.

Your visit continues with a chance to learn more about the impressive totem poles that are a unique part of the Native Alaskan culture. At Saxman Totem Park, your guide will help unravel the mysteries of these towering, majestic works of art. You'll then get to visit the Village Carving Center where carvers are busily working, passing on the craft to eager young apprentices. You may recognize carvers who have been featured on national television. Applying skills passed down for centuries, these craftsmen create some of the most sought-after Native art in the world. A stop at the Village Store provides an opportunity to purchase some of the finest Native art available or a memento of your visit.

You'll then re-board your motorcoach for a scenic ride as you make your return trip back to your ship. You'll see Alaska's busiest waterfront, bustling with floatplanes and boats. You'll drive by infamous Creek Street, Ketchikan's former red-light district during the Gold Rush, and see historic residential areas and the turn-of-the-century style downtown area.

The content of this tour is identical to KTN-120. Only guests using a wheelchair can book this tour, as it ensures accessible transportation. Due to the specialized nature of some lift-equipped vehicles, priority is given to guests using a wheelchair and one companion only; additional companions may be required to travel on the transportation provided for tour KTN-120. Bookings not marked with an accessibility requirement will be removed from the tour's inventory.

This tour can accommodate manual and electric wheelchairs. The lift on the vehicle can accommodate a maximum weight of 600 lbs., maximum length of 40 inches and maximum width of 27 inches. Passengers with disabilities must contact the onboard Tour Office at least 48 hours prior to the excursion to ensure arrangements can be made to meet their particular needs.
