What you will visit:

Bar Harbor by Land
When Bar Harbor was first settled in 1763, lobster fishing and ship building were the primary livelihood of its residents. But as word of the town's breathtaking beauty and the area's tranquil setting spread, scholars, scientists, writers, and artists such as Frederic Church and Thomas Cole flocked here for inspiration and a rustic way of life. Then in the 1880s, wealthy entrepreneurs like Rockefeller, JP Morgan, and Vanderbilt discovered this picturesque village and built mansion sized summer "cottages."

Bar Harbor by Sea
Step aboard the Margaret Todd, a 151-foot, four-masted schooner for a relaxing sail on Frenchman Bay. Your captain will navigate the calm waters around the Porcupine Islands offering panoramic views of the seaside village of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park with Cadillac Mountain as a backdrop. This magnificent vessel is the perfect platform for a commentary on the geological points of interest as well as wildlife such as the porpoise, seal, osprey and bald eagle that are often sighted in the area.

What you will see along the way:
Gaze out the window of your motorcoach at Bar Harbor's top highlights. See the town clock and the village bandstand. Admire a number of Victorian mansions that survived the Great Fire of 1947. See Bar Harbor's College of the Atlantic, noted for studies in marine biology. Continue along a portion of the Park Loop Road -- the main road through Acadia National Park and designated one of America's scenic byways.

Special Notes:

The sailing portion of the tour will vary in duration from 1½ - 1¾ hours depending on wind and weather. The schooner may be under sail and/or motor power depending on wind conditions. Tour operates rain or shine. Dress in layers; bring a rain jacket and binoculars. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
