Description
Be sure to read the Special Notes further down this page for important requirements and restriction.
Your excursion begins at the pier where you'll board your air-conditioned transportation and drive to Battery Park at the southern tip of Manhattan. Here, you'll board the ferry for Liberty Island. On the cruise over, take in the sites of New York Harbor, including beautiful views of the city, Staten Island, New Jersey and the gorgeous skyline in the distance. Upon arrival at Liberty Island, get up close for a walk around the base of this magnificent, larger-than-life "Lady Liberty." You'll have enough time to visit the gift shop and view some of the exterior exhibits (exterior visit only). Your tour guide will provide details about the statue, its completion in 1886 and the interesting story behind the statue.
Next, re-board the ferry and continue on to Ellis Island, which was the main immigration center for the United States from 1892 until World War II. Today it is an exceptional museum detailing all the different aspects of immigration and its effects on a growing and industrializing nation. The immigrant experience is integral in making New York City the world-class city that it is. Immigrants constantly shaped the city with their dreams. More than 12 million immigrants were processed at the Island and more than 40 percent of Americans can trace some part of their ancestry back to Ellis Island. Many people have used the Resource Room to research ancestors and the vessels they came here on. You'll have approximately 90 minutes on your own to explore the museum, visit the gift shop and cafés before boarding the ferry back to Battery Park.
Special Notes:
Guests must pass through an airline style security check before boarding the vessel. At Ellis Island there is a 100 yard walk between the boat launch and the Ellis Island Museum. Guests may purchase food and beverages on their own at the Statue of Liberty Island.Guests may rent an Audio Guide which will give them a detailed and immersive experience during their free time on both islands.
Audio Guide Presentation:
On Liberty Island, the 30 minutes audio tour explores the history of the Statue of Liberty and its importance as a symbol of freedom and opportunity around the world.
On Ellis Island, the 45 minute audio tour immerses visitors in the immigrant experience through narration and first hand immigrant accounts, inviting them to vividly relive the immigrant experience as if they were the "new arrival".
