WHAT YOU VISIT
Mayan Ruins of Tulum
One of the best preserved Mayan ruins, Tulum (pronounced too-LOOM) is an ancient pre-Columbian Mayan kingdom rising high on the cliffs above the Caribbean Sea. Tulum means "wall," and this protected, walled city was one of the very few of its kind that the ancients built and one of the last inhabited by the Maya. Its main temples are El Castillo, The Temple of the Descending God, The Temple of the Water and the Temple of the Frescos.
Playa del Carmen
A tour of this charming coastal town reveals a sunny playground boasting alabaster-white beaches and a gentle surf.
PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
Stop for a "selfie" at the famous Temple of the Frescoes lookout set on the edge of a sheer 40-foot cliff set against a backdrop of magnificent temples and bright blue Caribbean Sea.
LUNCH
Sit down and relax with a delicious buffet lunch with local drinks.
SHOPPING
In Playa del Carmen, you'll visit a local Mayan Cooperative Center. Here you'll find souvenirs, collector's items, clothing and reproductions of ancient Mexican art.
WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
Tulum is a quiet town in the Caribbean coastal state of Quintana Roo. Wind your way along rural roads, past charming villages and lush vegetation as you make your way via motorcoach to the cliff top ruins.
Special Notes:
Passengers prone to seasickness should take proper precautions. At Tulum, the Mexican government will collect $4.50 from guests wishing to take a video camera into the ruins. No tripods or professional equipment are permitted. Climbing on the ruins is prohibited. Strollers are not allowed at the site. This tour is not recommended for passengers in wheelchairs or those who have difficulty walking. The ground can be very rough and uneven. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a towel and adequate sun protection.
