Corinth Canal Cruise

Board your motorcoach for the approximately 75-minute drive to the Corinth Canal by modern highway. Pass Eleusis and Megara with views of beaches, rocky coves and the blue waters of the Saronic Gulf.

Carved into a massive rock, the 76-foot wide and 26-foot deep canal dramatically separates the Peloponnese from the rest of mainland Greece. A fantastic photo opportunity can be had 200 feet above water, from the center of the bridge that spans its banks. The Emperor Nero once ordered a canal built here, however, the project was abandoned; the Corinth Canal was built only in the last century.

Board your boat in Isthmia which has a small submersible bridge connecting it to the mainland. Depending on the traffic of the canal, the trip through may be made twice. For approximately 45 minutes you will travel serenely through the canal and marvel at the sheer rock walls rising above the waters. Before the engineers of the 19th century succeeded to build this canal where their predecessors had failed, ships had to sail all the way around the Peloponnese - adding 185 nautical miles and several extra days to the journey.

Special Notes:

This tour is not available to passengers beginning or ending their voyage in Piraeus (Athens).

The drive from Piraeus to Corinth is approximately 1 1/4 hours each way.

There are a few steps involved when boarding the Canal Transit boats. Passengers with limited mobility should take this into consideration before booking this tour. Depending on the traffic waiting to cross the canal you may experience a longer than usual wait and the transit may be done twice.

This tour may not operate on all Tuesdays due to maintenance in the Canal.
