Your adventure in Rome begins when you board your motorcoach at the Port of Civitavecchia for a 90-minute leisurely drive through the countryside, allowing you to admire picturesque views of the Tyrrenian Sea along the way. Arriving in Rome, you'll walk to St. Peter's Square, which features a central obelisk, refreshing twin fountains and semicircular colonnades crowned with statues of the saints designed by Bernini. This striking piazza frames the entrance to St. Peter's Basilica, which you will have time to explore on your own - or just browse the square's shops at your leisure. You'll feel like a local as you wander through the bustling city streets, sampling local cuisine and perusing the boutiques. Sip a cappuccino at a trattoria or savor a refreshing gelato from a street vendor before shopping for souvenirs and exquisite leather goods. Photo opportunities abound, as around every corner you'll find such historic landmarks as The Roman Forum, the Colloseum and the Arch of Constantine - many within close proximity to each other. City maps and guidebooks are readily available to assist you in maximizing your day.

A wonderful way to maximize your day in Rome is to utilize the hop on & hop off bus system. This upgrade can be purchased on the motorcoach to Rome, depending to local conditions. The bus route stops at the main archaeological sites and historical landmarks. The buses run continuously arriving at each stop about every 20 to 30 minutes.

You'll return to your escort at a designated place and time to meet the motorcoach for a relaxing ride back to port. Your return journey is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on your travels and compare adventures with your fellow travelers.

This tour does not operate on voyages ending in Rome (Civitavecchia).

The drive between Civitavecchia and Rome is approximately 1.5 hours each way, subject to traffic conditions.

There may be an additional walk of approximately 15 minutes to reach Vatican's Square from the designated bus parking area.

Proper attire that covers shoulders and legs must be worn by both men and women in St. Peter's Basilica - mini-skirts, shorts and capri pants are not acceptable. In addition visitors are often required to check large bags, video cameras and bottled water at a desk.

Please be aware that ongoing restoration work is often being carried out at the various venues visited.

Flash photos are not permitted in the Vatican Museum. Photography and video are not permitted at all in the Sistine Chapel.

You might encounter considerable crowds, lines and delays at the, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museums, Colosseum and other venues.

Lunch and entrance fees are not included.

Please be aware that St. Peter's Basilica might close for security reasons at any given time without advance notice.

Should the designed motor coach drop off / pick up point for St. Peters Basilica and Vatican Museum (Sistine Chapel) be congested or unavailable, an alternative drop off / pick up point location will be used. Please note that an additional walking portion of 0.6 miles from / to the alternative location should be considered.

Guests suffering from claustrophobia must be aware that the motor coach drop off / pick up point for St. Peter's Basilica, " Parking Gianicolo", is underground Parking.

Euros are required for entrance fees; Euros and/or credit cards are recommended in retail and dining venues; change your money onboard the ship or at a currency exchange in Rome.

On Sundays and public holidays the majority of the shops will be closed – only souvenir shops will be open.
