Discover the magical Tawali Resort, a postcard-ready gem nestled on a volcanic mountain overlooking Milne Bay. Surrounded by breathtaking, natural scenery, this resort is Papua New Guinea's best kept secret – until now.
Begin the day with a Skull Cave Tour. Take a short dinghy ride from Tawali Resort to the local village, and then enjoy a 15 minute stroll along the captivating shoreline before arriving at a series of limestone caves. Follow the trail down into the caves and set your gaze upon what could be conceived as the darker side of Milne Bay's exotic history. Skulls of the village ancestors reside in the caves, but as to why they are there is not really known. As you re-emerge from the caves, you will get the chance to meet some of the local villagers and purchase some of their handicraft.
Return to the resort for a light lunch.
Papua New Guinea is located in the Coral Triangle. It is named so for its staggering number of coral species ad dense yet diverse number of fish species and other marine life. The guided tour to the House reef site is best done in two separate snorkels, one from each wharf of Tawali resort.
There have been a large variety of critters found at Tawali since the doors opened. Stargazers, Epaulet Sharks, Octopus, Ghost Pipe Fish, Sea Horses, Mandarin Fish and Harlequin Shrimps to name a few, its one of those places that the more you are in the water the more you see.
Relax the afternoon away as you enjoy free time at the resort to swim in the pool, snorkel at the beach or kick back on the deck.
