Piha Bush Nature Walk
Because New Zealand has existed for millions of years separate from the rest of the world, it has evolved its own unique flora and fauna. Seventy percent of its native plants are found nowhere else in the world and are best explored on guided Piha bush walks (along well established trails). Learn about the abundance of native species, discover giant tree ferns and listen to the songs of native birds.

Piha Beach Exploration
The wild, west coast beaches of Auckland offer the opportunity to gaze upon glimmering black sand set against the dramatic surf and rugged natural beauty. The most iconic stretch of black sand is Piha Beach. Surrounded by massive and jagged rock formations, the believed remains of a giant volcanic crater, Piha Beach is a popular surfing spot because the rocks create natural, sheltered surf breaks. Black sand gets very hot, so please bring suitable waterproof footwear.

What you will see along the way:
From Auckland, travel 30 minutes by motorcoach to the Waitakere Ranges, a lush, bird-filled fringe of hills separating Auckland from its rugged west coast. In this gateway to the rainforest, magnificent traditional Maori carvings stand guard at the entrance to the area. Here, gaze upon the breathtaking panorama of the whole of the Auckland isthmus, with the Pacific Ocean to the east, the Tasman Sea to the west, and their two very different harbors: the calm, sparkling Waitemata and the brooding Manukau.

This excursion features extensive walking over uneven terrain. Not recommended for passengers with limited mobility.

Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots and bring a rain-proof jacket.
