Wellington Film Locations
In and around Wellington, and at the top of Mt. Victoria, stroll through the landscapes immortalized in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and other films. Experience the Outer Shire, where Frodo and the hobbits began their journey and such scenes as the Race to the Ferry and the famous Get off the Road were filmed. While exploring throughout Wellington, you'll learn more about areas used in a variety of movies.

The Weta Workshop
Located in Miramar, the Weta Workshop offers a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the wonderful world of movie-making. From Lord of the Rings to Avatar, King Kong and more, the Weta Workshop tour showcases the many props, costumes, creatures and models from these blockbuster films. Snap a selfie with life-sized sculptures at the Weta Cave (photography is not allowed during the tour), peruse the mini-museum with artifacts from films, and watch an exclusive documentary movie. One of the talented Weta Workshop crew members leads your tour and offers lively, insightful commentary plus a few secrets behind the movie magic.

What you will see along the way:
A Lord of the Rings expert guide escorts you on your drive in and around Wellington to view locations used in the filming of the famed trilogy. Many can be found on Mount Victoria, where the forested areas were used to depict various scenes from The Hobbit. Other Wellington locations include the Hutt River and Harcourt Park. At the end of the day, your return to the ship takes you on a scenic ride via Evans Bay and Oriental Bay for picturesque views of the harbor and Wellington City.

From the top of Mt. Victoria, you'll be treated to magnificent, picture-perfect views of the city and harbor.

Shopping:
At the Weta Workshop gift shop, browse an incredible collection of prop replicas, apparel, books and more from the Lord of the Rings trilogy and many more of your favorite films.

Special Notes:

Due to legal and conservation requirements, no film sets remain on location. Photography is not allowed inside the Weta Workshop facility.

Wheelchairs and walkers can not be taken on transportation on this tour.

Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots and clothes suited to the day's conditions. Bring a hat, light jacket and adequate sun protection.

The Weta Cave is closed on 25 Dec, 26 Dec, 1 Jan and ANZAC day.
