WHAT YOU VISIT
Carmel Mission
Originally founded in 1770 in Monterey by Saint Junipero Serra, the mission was moved a year later to Carmel-by-the-Sea, and is fittingly the final resting place of Serra himself. This registered National Historic Landmark, designed in a combination of Spanish and Moorish influences, showcases the natural, spiritual beauty of the basilica church and the stone centerpiece of the mission that stands on the same location where an old adobe church once stood. The Carmel Mission's four museum galleries give insight into the history of both the Monterey Peninsula and the 21 California missions.

Folktale Winery & Vineyards
Surrounded by vineyards and oak-studded mountains in beautiful Carmel Valley, the 40-year-old winery is an idyllic setting to sample six of California's finest wines, each paired with light snacks that will delight your appetite and palate.

PHOTO OPPORTUNITY
The gardens surrounding the Carmel Mission bloom with native plants and flowers, and a serene statue of Saint Junipero Serra.

WHAT YOU SEE ALONG THE WAY
As you make your way south from Monterey to Carmel-by-the-Sea, it may be interesting to note that the area was once the site of one of the strangest battles ever fought in California. In 1818, privateer Hipolyte Bouchard, fighting for the new country of Argentina, invaded Monterey and hoisted the Argentinian flag over the capital of California where it stayed for five days. After raiding Monterey, he plundered the missions in Santa Barbara and San Juan Capistrano.

Special Notes:

Please note on certain occasions an alternate winery, similar to Folktale, may be used depending on availability.
