Gear up for a scenic Alaska adventure complete with dramatic valley, lake and glacier views. You'll take it all in from the seat of your bicycle on a gentle 8-mile bike ride ideal for outdoor enthusiasts age 10 and up.

Your excursion begins with a narrated, scenic drive to the Mendenhall Valley area taking in some of the top attractions of Juneau along the way. The state capital hugs the slopes of Mount Juneau and Mount Roberts and entices with its warren of vibrant streets, architectural blend of old and new including atmospheric taverns and hotels straight out of the gold rush. Outside the city, wilderness extends in every direction. Mendenhall Glacier, Alaska's famous drive-up glacier is your destination for a tour filled with awe-inspiring sights, invigorating physical exercise, and a variety of sensory experiences. And with camera in hand, you'll be able to document every aspect of this action-packed excursion. Your bike route takes you along scenic trails that afford myriad perspectives overlooking this frequently visited glacier. It is one of the 38 major glaciers that extend from the 1,500 square-mile Juneau Icefield, a mind-boggling expanse covered with massive fingers of ice that stretch to the sea.

Once you arrive at the starting point for your ride, you will be outfitted with top-of-the-line gear including a helmet, street bike, water bottles, and rain gear and gloves, if necessary. After a safety briefing, you'll be ready for your day of adventure. You'll begin beside Auke Lake, enjoying the picturesque views of it and the Mendenhall Glacier from in front of the charming Chapel by the Lake, a quaint older log chapel in the middle of this paradise. You'll continue through the University of Alaska Southeast campus located in a glacier carved valley, then wind along the pastoral lake stopping for another spectacular view of the Mendenhall Glacier's western vista. By then, it'll be time to stop for a rest. Enjoy a moment on the beach before resuming your ride to the glacier's east side for another glimpse of this mighty actively calving, receding glacier. After your final stop near the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor's Center, you'll have the opportunity to stretch your legs on the short walking trail where you can see the majestic Mendenhall Glacier from a much closer perspective. On the way, you can stop to visit a nearby stream where in the later summer months you can see salmon spawning and once in a while you can even see bears diving in for a fresh salmon snack.

After your exhilarating bike ride and glacier visit, you'll then board a van for a ride to Merchant's Wharf, a waterfront landmark in Alaska aviation history, where you'll get to sample award-winning beers from micro-breweries across the state. It's the perfect way to celebrate your adventure before your van ride back to your ship.

Special Notes:

Participants must be in moderate to good physical condition and at least 4'8". Minimum age is 10. Guests must be at least 21 years old and have photo ID for beer tastings and participants under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Liability waiver is required to be signed in the presence of the tour operator.

Unaccompanied Minor Policy: Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Children 16 to 17 must have a signed parental consent form to participate without a parent or guardian.

Medical Restriction:

Guests who are pregnant may participate up until three months into their pregnancy.
